21 November 2008 |  | Tradition procession to the church built by Longhena in the fulfillment of a vow taken during the terrible 17th century plague. Every year a votive bridge is built crossing the Grand Canal, connecting the area of San Moisè and S. Maria del Giglio with Longhena's basilica. Tens of thousands of people make the pilgrimage to pay homage to the Madonna and to light a candle asking her to keep them in good health.

26 September 2008 - 8 December 2008 |  | On view are the latest works of the Austrain artist, a leading figure in the contemporary art world and a resident of Venice since 2001. The solo show offers paintings on rough jute fabrics or on papaer, created with coal, chalk and with a meticulous use of color. The subjects are visions, dissolves, omens in a powerfully symbolic and dreamlike suspended narrative. Catalogue is in Italian ad English, with articles by Rainer Metzger and Giandomenico Romanelli.

George Barbier in Venice - The birth of Art Déco 30 August 2008 - 05 January 2009 | Photo:© Séverine Desmarest | This is the first exhibition in Italy dedicated to the work of George Barbier (1882-1932), an artist, fashion illustrator and set designer who was a leading figure in the Art Deco movement. There will be 138 original illustrations from the Palazzo Mocenigo collection, together with material from the Bibliothèque Nationale de France and various private collections.

It falls on the third Sunday in July, and is a tourist attraction thanks to the spectacular firework display in the evening.
